“The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.”
Madeleine L’Engle, 20th century, A Wrinkle in Time
This quote appeared in a post on edustange’s posterous. It struck a chord with me. How often does new thinking, inspiration, ideas or direction occur when we “hit a wall”. As J. Mezirow states, for true transformative learning, a sense of dissonance or discomfort must occur to spur new thought and the need to learn.
